I think that saving money is a very good habit. This is because from experience, I saved up money every year and I saved about $1300. With that money, I was able to dig up a well in Cambodia for poor children. By doing this, it gave me great joy as I have done a good deed and did what God wanted. From then on, I wanted to save money to become rich and help more needy people.
There are many benefits of saving money. Some of these benefits are that it develops our discipline and self control. Like when we go to the shops, and we are trying to save money, we won’t use all of it. Also, it teaches us self control by helping us not to buy the things we don’t really need. Not only that it develops us discipline and self control but it also teaches us to appreciate that money is hard to earn. In addition, we will understand how hard our parents have worked to earn it. It also teaches us how to spend our money wisely as when we are saving money we will be very cautious about how we use our money and how it can be wasted easily.
Some people think saving money makes one very miserly. Many people disagree with that statement as it depends on the personality of the person. There are people who are savers and yet, are extremely generous. My father is one such person. He saves a lot of money but at the same time he supports many charities.
Some people also say that life is short. We may die tomorrow, why should we save money? While this may be true, what if we don’t die tomorrow? What if we live a long life? Are we really going to spend lots of money frivolously because we think we’ll die tomorrow? Statistics show that the average life span is presently 80 years old and getting longer. We always have to use money until we die. So it is good to have plenty and that only comes by saving.
Saving money is an extremely good habit because of all the benefits. We will be able to help poor people by building more wells for them. Also, we can develop discipline and self control. Also by saving money, we will appreciate that money is extraordinarily hard to earn and we will understand how our parents have worked hard to get that money. Furthermore it will help us to spend money really carefully. When all is said and done, the wise book of Proverbs 13:22 reminds us that “a good man leaves an inheritance for his children's children”, and that can only happen by saving.
